It contains a blend of mixed amines and their salts, whose vapours provide corrosion protection by absorbing onto metal surfaces as a molecular film.

Description

Castrol Corrosion Inhibitor N 213 is used to improve the corrosion protection of an existing lubricant, particularly in enclosed environments. It was specifically developed to enhance the in-service performance of Castrol Alpha SP gear oils, and can be used for the internal protection of engines and gearboxes, fuel tanks, hydraulic systems, pipework and export packaging, pumps, and compressors.

Because the protection is vapour-derived, it is only fully effective in a closed and sealed system that allows the vapours to build up; a temporary level of protection also results from direct surface contact with the oil.

It should be dosed at between 0.5 and 1 litre per 1 m³ of housing volume, used only as a gear oil additive (for example in Castrol Alpha SP / Alpha SP…S) rather than in its pure form, with around 20 to 25 litres of gear oil present per litre of Corrosion Inhibitor N 213 used.
